Nintendo Switch eShop Halloween Sale - European discounts

Lots of Switch games are currently on sale in the Switch eShop. Below, we've summarised the discounts, expiry dates, and WOS ratings for each of the games, so you can decide which games to pick up.

Games not part of this promotion, but for sale right now:

The Count Lucanor - down from £11.99 to £10.79 (10% discount) - sale ends 25th October. No rating as we don't have enough reviews yet. Too few reviews for us to recommend it, although the one review we do have rates this as 8/10. It's only a small discount and the sale ends soon, so we only suggest buying the game now if you really want it. Otherwise, wait for more reviews - you won't lose much of a discount if it's worth picking this up.

Astro Bears Party - down from £4.49 to £3.59 (20% discount) - sale ends 10th November. Average rating 5.5/10. While this has had low scores, it's a low price to begin with - and we've seen reports suggesting it can be quite fun in short bursts, if a little repetitive. It might be worth a look. Read reviews carefully to see if it's your kind of game. Seek out videos too, if you can.

Don't Knock Twice - down from £9.99 to £7.99 (20% discount) - sales ends 14th November. Average rating 3.8/10. Our advice is not to bother with this. A 20% discount is irrelevant when the reviews rate this title so low.

Halloween promotion

We've linked to our game pages for each of the titles listed below. Our game pages will help you find out more about the game, and also find some of the critic reviews so you can read more in-depth opinions.

Please note: Except where stated, we haven't played the games listed below - we're going by the average rating of the critic reviews we display for each game at World of Switch, along with the discount. In most cases it's a question of "is the game worth buying?", but occasionally, a good discount may make it worth picking up a game you'd otherwise overlook.

Hopefully it goes without saying, but it's up to you to make a final decision as to whether these games are worth your money!

All of the following discounts end on 2nd November, so buy before then if there's something you'd like to grab at a discounted price.

Recommended at any price:

Axiom Verge - down from £14.99 to £13.49 (10% discount) - average rating 8.7/10. Axiom Verge has been highly rated by reviewers. This isn't a huge discount, but we were going to buy it anyway.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ - down from £35.99 to £32.39 (10% discount) - average rating 8.5/10. Another highly-rated game, the price tag is also quite high, and the discount isn't that low. It's worth picking this up. However, you might find it slightly cheaper at Amazon UK (affiliate link), so check there first.

Cave Story+ - down from £26.99 to £24.29 (10% discount) - average rating 8.8/10. Currently in our Top 10 Switch games, Cave Story+ is highly recommended. It's currently cheaper on the eShop than on Amazon UK (affiliate link), but consider Amazon if you'd like a physical copy. (I own this and I definitely recommend it!)

Severed - down from £13.49 to £10.79 (20% discount) - average rating 8.54/10. Another well-rated game, this is a good discount and worth considering for your collection. The only thing that puts me off is that it requires the touchscreen and is therefore handheld-only.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - (Can't see the discount as I already own it!) - average rating 8.67/10. Can't comment on the discount (it's a bit annoying that you can't see discounts for games you own). I'd recommend this title at its original price, so if you can get a discount, snap it up right away. (I own this and I definitely recommend it!)

Worth considering:

GoNNER - down from £8.99 to £7.64 (15% discount) - average rating 8.30/10. This is only in the "worth considering" category because it's a difficult game. If that's your thing, go for it. If you're in any doubt, read some of the reviews and seek out some videos before you buy.

Snake Pass - down from £15.99 to £7.99 (50% discount) - average rating 7.47/10. While the ratings suggest this is good rather than great, it's hard to ignore the big discount here. If you don't already own Snake Pass (and I don't... yet) now's the time to check it out.

Bulb Boy - down from £7.19 to £5.03 (30% discount) - average rating 7.66/10. As with Snake Pass, this has got good (not great) ratings. The discount is good. Why not pick this up for a fiver?

Thimbleweed Park - down from £14.99 to £12.74 (15% discount) - average rating 7.54/10. A fairly small discount. Again, this falls into the "good but not great ratings" camp. Have a read of the reviews to find out more and see if the game is for you.

Disgaea 5 Complete - down from £49.99 to £41.66 (16% discount) - average rating 8.65/10. This is highly-rated, but it's a full-price title, so it's quite expensive compared to the other titles on this list. The discount is generous though. The other thing I'd mention is that Disgaea is not to everyone's tastes. I've tried it, and I'm not 100% sure if it's right for me. The best thing is that there's a free demo, so you can take it for a spin before making your mind up.

Maybe:

Butcher - down from £8.99 to £7.19 (20% discount) - average rating 7.18/10. A good discount, but we're getting into the "low sevens" now, so we'd highly recommend reading a few reviews before you buy this.

The Bridge - down from £8.99 to £6.74 (25% discount) - No rating as we don't have enough reviews yet. This has had two 7/10 ratings so far, at least from the sites we keep up with. There's a good discount here, but we can't give much of a steer about the game itself. Have a read of the reviews and see if this sounds like a game you'd like to play.

Lichtspeer: Double Speer Edition - down from £8.99 to £7.19 (20% discount) - average rating 6.3/10. Lots of reviews of this game, mostly fives and sixes, plus a couple of sevens. The discount is OK, but as usual in this category, we'd suggest reading a few of the reviews to get an idea of what the game is like.

Phantom Trigger - down from £13.49 to £6.74 (50% discount) - average rating 6.02/10. A big discount, but quite a spread of scores - two sevens and a 7.5, but then a 6.6, a 5, and a 3. Read those reviews!

Avoid:

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment - down from £8.99 to £7.19 (20% discount) - average rating 8.60/10. Only because if you buy Treasure Trove (which is also on discount), you don't need to buy this separately.

Vaccine - down from £8.99 to £6.29 (30% discount) - average rating 4.67/10. One of our lowest-rated games, a chunky discount doesn't make this game worthwhile.

Dark Witch Music Episode: Rudymical - down from £6.99 to £6.29 (10% discount) - average rating 4.78/10. Another very low rating here, and the discount is one of the lowest in monetary terms of the whole list.
