I spotted that the 200 games milestone would be surpassed on Friday, but I'm writing about it a day late, because... well, Super Mario Odyssey came out.
It's both reassuring and quite astounding how far the Switch has come in nearly 8 months. Zelda and Mario have made a huge impression with what many consider to be "best in breed" instalments, surpassing even the mighty Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64. The Switch feels like it's nailing game after game, as was the case with many games in the N64 era - but the Switch is clearly attracting a lot more third-party interest than the N64 had.
To be already at 200 games (and there's a good quantity of decent titles on that list) is incredible.
I've been told I'm obsessed with the Switch. I don't deny that at all. The sheer amount of time I ploughed into Zelda in March is something I've not done with any game in a very long time. I recently started a new save on a new profile (not in Master Mode) and have been doing it all over again. And Super Mario Odyssey has already been dominating my weekend.
Aside from the two biggest titles, I've had a huge amount of fun playing SteamWorld Dig 2 and Cave Story+, returned to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe over and over again, sunk 50+ hours in Puyo Puyo Tetris, enjoyed Shovel Knight and Sonic Mania, and steadily progressed through Mario + Rabbids - although this is one game I've not finished yet.
I'll admit to not being a huge fan of Splatoon 2, and I decided not to get ARMS, but lots of people feel differently. There are dozens of other games worth playing that I've not mentioned, and many more I've not played. There's a really good range of titles to choose from - and there's plenty more on the horizon.
I haven't enjoyed games this much since the N64 days. And back then, pretty much all new games were £40 plus. Most were £50-60. Not to mention, there weren't a lot of games for the N64. I know other Nintendo consoles had more titles, but I'd just like to point out the following about the N64:
Of the console's 388 official releases, 196 are region-locked to Japan, 296 to North America, and 242 to Europe
The great thing about the Switch is that not only does it have two of the best games possibly ever, it also has loads of other games worth checking out. Plus we don't have Metroid, Kirby or Yoshi yet.
It's a very good time to be a Nintendo fan.
