How we're helping to connect Switch indie developers and publishers with reviewers

Updated 28th Jan, 2019: Check out our new Partners page for how you can join as a partner.

Happy New Year to all Switch gamers, WOS members, reviewers, developers and publishers!

In 2019, we're looking to link up indie developers and publishers with reviewers. We're in the early stages of planning features to help with this - and that's where you come in.

For developers and publishers:

We want to hear from you!

We are steadily working on setting up pages for developers and publishers. Most games in our database have developers and publishers against them, but they aren't yet linked up to the new pages. This will take some time to complete.

If you're a developer or publisher of Switch games, we need your help. First, we encourage you to register at worldofswitch.com so we can link you to the developer and/or publisher pages on the site.

Once you've registered, please get in touch with as many of the following details as are appropriate:

  1. the email address you used to register
  2. the name of your company - this will be the name we display on the site
  3. a link to your website along with your Twitter handle - if you have multiple regional sites, just go with the UK / Europe version, or any English-language version
  4. a list of the games you have released for Switch, so we can cross-check these against our database and ensure they are linked up correctly
  5. details of any upcoming games with release dates for UK/Europe, US and Japan, if known - please note, we aren't looking to build an exhaustive list of upcoming games unless they have reliable dates against them - if you don't know the dates yet, don't worry, we can always add the games later :)
  6. to gauge interest, please tell us if you want to be able to connect with reviewers via the site.
  7. by all means, do tell us anything else you'd find useful on the site.

For reviewers:

If you have a site where you publish Switch reviews and you're not already a reviewer, we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch with some details about your site:

  1. the name and URL of your site
  2. your name and role at the site - if you're not the owner, please make sure they're ok with you approaching us
  3. a rough idea of how many Switch reviews you have - don't worry, if you're not sure, we can tell you this if we sign you up
  4. a link to your Switch reviews feed - again, if you're not sure, we can have a look for this if we know where your site is

A few criteria to note:

  • We need your reviews to contain a numeric rating - either a score out of 5, or out of 10.
  • We need an RSS feed containing only your Switch reviews. There should not be games for other platforms in the feed.
  • If you can't provide an RSS feed or we are unable to process it, you would need to submit your reviews individually via our "Partner reviews" screen in the members area.
  • You'll get extra brownie points if your feed contains post titles formatted in a consistent way, so our title-matching tool can automatically link your reviews to games in our database.
  • You'll also get extra brownie points if your feed contains the review score in a field that we can easily pick up. Very few reviewers are able to do this - you'll save us a lot of manual work if you can include it.

Once you've applied, we'll have a look and let you know if your application was successful.

If you're already a reviewer, keep writing those reviews - we really appreciate them! Soon, we'll be adding a way to indicate if you're open to review requests from developers and publishers - this will be integral to how we get you connected. More details soon.

For our awesome members:

There are a couple of new features that you get access to by registering and logging in:

  • Games collection: Add all of the games you own here. You can indicate whether you've started a game, to help work on your backlog; whether you've got a game in progress, to show which games you will be continuing with; and whether you've completed the game. You can also add the date you picked up the game, whether you own it on physical or digital, and the number of hours you've played it for. How many hours have you logged across all your Switch games? Add your collection and we'll tell you.
  • User reviews: Let other members know what you think of a game. Submit your own short reviews for inclusion on game pages. Once we have a few more user reviews on the site, we'll be looking to create a new page to list the top ranked games by user reviews.

Help spread the word

We're really keen to help get more people connected via World of Switch. The Switch is rapidly approaching its 2 year anniversary and already has over 1500 games. With so many games coming out every month, it's easy to miss some. We want to help people find more of the hidden gems. With your help, we can do this better. Please help by spreading the word - share our website link, share our Twitter handle, and if you're a reviewer, developer or publisher, get in touch. Thank you for your continued support! Let's make 2019 an excellent year!
