Site update: Major reorganisation of Games section

Today we're excited to announce a reorganised Games section with a variety of new pages that we'll be populating over the coming weeks.

1. Changes to the top navigation links

  • "Games" is now "Browse all games"
  • "Recent" and "Upcoming" have been added
  • "Calendar" and "Tags" have been demoted, and can now be found on the Games homepage

2. Browse all games

The Games homepage has a few new links at the top:

  • "Browse by title (A-Z)" is the Released games index
  • "Browse by date (calendar)" is where the Release calendar has moved to
  • "Browse by tag" is where the Tags page has moved to

3. Browse by series and primary type (work in progress)

We've put in some new options so you can browse by game series or primary type.

Game series may include games that are part of a series, such as Final Fantasy. However, we'll also be using this to group together release lines, such as Arcade Archives, ACA NeoGeo, and Sega Ages.

Some games already have the game series as a tag, which will be removed in due course.

Primary type is essentially a replacement for the eShop genres. While we'll still display genres on the site for the time being, we'll be moving towards using primary types as the main high-level categorisation for a game. A good example is how a puzzle game would have "Puzzle" as its primary type, and then might have a tag of Mahjong or Picross. In the future, tags will become like subcategories beneath the primary types. It isn't that useful to have a page with 900 "Action" games, for instance; we'll be attempting to slice up the large genre lists into digestible chunks.

We could really do with some help in identifying primary types, series and tags to use on the site, and in turn, to identify games that should be assigned to each of those. Get in touch if you'd like to help - we'd greatly appreciate it.

This new setup is a work in progress - we hope it starts to give you better ways to find some of the lesser known games in the >2000 strong Switch catalogue.

Thank you!

- Ben
